Introduction to Egg Production
Layer hens are raised specifically for egg production. Proper management ensures high yield, egg quality, and profitability. Key factors include housing, feeding, health, lighting, and marketing.
Housing
Provide ventilated coops or cages, maintain cleanliness, control temperature and humidity. Space 0.2–0.3 m² per bird for optimal production.
Feeding
Feed layer feed with 16–18% protein and sufficient calcium for strong eggshells. Provide clean water at all times. Monitor feed intake for egg production optimization.
Health Management
Vaccinate and deworm regularly, monitor for diseases, and maintain biosecurity. Remove sick birds promptly and isolate new birds before introducing them to the flock.
Lighting & Egg Production
Maintain 14–16 hours of light daily to stimulate egg laying. Use natural sunlight or artificial lighting as needed.
Egg Collection & Marketing
Collect eggs 2–3 times daily to prevent breakage and contamination. Sell to local markets, shops, or processing units. Clean and grade eggs for maximum profit.
